Rooted in community
Grassroots was created from a simple belief: adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve meaningful opportunities to connect, participate, grow, and feel a genuine sense of belonging in their community.
We’re building a program that looks beyond simply filling the day. Grassroots is about creating meaningful days shaped by the people who attend — their interests, strengths, goals, personalities, and the things that bring them joy.
Why Grassroots?
The name Grassroots was inspired by the dune grass along the shores of Long Point — where the roots run deep beneath the sand, holding everything together even when much of their strength can’t be seen.
The word grassroots also reflects something that begins within a community and grows from the people who are part of it. That meaning felt especially fitting for a program being built around the needs, interests, and voices of the people it will serve.
Together, those ideas reflect what Grassroots is meant to represent: connection, belonging, community, and meaningful participation.
